Me, Myself, and I

Me, Myself, and I

There seems to be no good way to jump into an introduction to oneself, so here it goes! My name is Bri, and I was born in a small town in Michigan called Holland. The coast of Holland is covered with what I would describe as some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Lake Michigan cradles Holland with its massive freshwater beauty. I have been fortunate enough to live in this state for 21 years and I still am awed by how beautiful it is. Ignoring the model in the lower picture (my cousin) you can see a small sample of the white sand, freshwater beaches that Michigan is surrounded by.

I am a photography major at Grand Valley State University. Upon realizing that I could not stop taking pictures of my home-state and its splendor, I decided to make the bold decision to take photography and run with it as my profession. Fall of 2015 marks the beginning of my fourth year of schooling at GVSU, and with that comes a whole new set of challenges.

Strange as it may sound this is my first year taking a digital photography course. Up until this point all of my photographic education has been film,... yes, this does sound very obsolete.  However working with film in a darkroom gives students very hands on training with photography that translates directly over to digital photographing. One of the challenges that comes with digital photography is the editing aspect. One could spend hundreds of hours learning photoshop software and still have many questions to spare.

I commute to Grand Valley on Mondays and Wednesdays from my home in Holland where I live with my two sisters, boyfriend and puppy Ollie.

I can imagine that Ollie will be featured in many of the photos I include in my blog seeing as he loves nature more than any other animal or person I know.

Ironically enough, soon after I typed that last sentence my mangy mutt decided to hurl himself at the window in my bedroom, where I chose to type this post, to bark profusely at a squirrel.
While he was throwing himself into my second story window, he so kindly knocked down my succulent plant that I placed there to get some sunlight.

....I also had an image of my beloved succulents (which are now crushed by 85 pounds of dog) handy. My carpeted bedroom floor is now covered in dirt which I now have to clean, and I just noticed a giant stink bug crawling across the wall of my bedroom. This is where I will conclude this post. I have some cleaning to tend to.
